25 Types of Metal Stamping Processes You Should Know

metal stamping parts

Cold metal stamping die process is a metal processing method, which is mainly for metal materials, forcing the materials to deform or separate through press equipment such as punching machines, in order to get product parts that meet the actual requirements, metal stamping parts.

There are many kinds of metal stamping processes for dies and molds, and this article give you a summary of the most common 25 metal stamping processes:

1、Stamping and cutting

A general term for a stamping process that separates materials. It includes: drop, punching, punching, slotting, cutting, chiseling, cutting edge, cutting tongue, cutting, etc.

2、 Lower profile

This is a stamping process that mainly involves cutting off a circle of excess material on the periphery of the material to meet dimensional requirements.

3、Tongue cutting

A part of the material is cut into an opening, but not all of it is cut, commonly for rectangles, only three sides are cut and one side is left untouched, the main function is to set the pace.

4、Flaring

This process is not common, mostly for tubular parts need to expand the end or a place outward for the case of flare.

5、Crimp

Just the opposite of flare, is the need to reduce the end of the tubular parts or a certain place in a stamping process

6、Punching

In order to obtain the hollow part of the part, the complete material is separated from the middle of the material through the punch and the cutter to obtain the corresponding hole size.

7、Fine punching

When the quality of the cross-section of the stamped part is full brightness, it can be called “fine punching” (Note: the cross-section of common punching is divided into four parts: collapsed angle, brightness, fracture and burr area)

8、All-bright punching

Unlike fine blanking, full bright blanking must be done in one step, while fine blanking is not.

9、Deep hole punching

When the diameter of the hole in the product is smaller than the thickness of the material, it can be understood as deep hole punching, and the difficulty of punching is that the punch is easy to break.

10、Punching convex package

The process of making a projection on the flat material to meet the requirements of use.

11、Forming

Forming is understood as bending, which is not strict. Because bending is a type of forming, forming refers to the general term for all liquid material processes.

12、Bending

The flat material through the convex, concave mold insert plastic deformation to get the corresponding angle, shape of a conventional process.

13、Pressing rib

This is generally used in the sharp corner bending molding inserts, mainly through the bending position of the material to reduce the material to play a convex pit, to ensure that the angle of a stable structure.

14、Embossing

In the surface of the material through the punch pressed out of a special pattern of the process, common: pressed words, pockmark, etc.

15、Rounding

A molding process, is a process by the product shape curled into a circle.

16、Hole turning

The process of turning out the inner hole of the pressed part to get a certain height of the side.

17、Flattening

When the flatness of the stamped parts is out of balance due to stress, it is necessary to use the leveling process for leveling.

18、Shaping

When the product is completed, the angle, shape is not theoretical size, it is necessary to consider adding a process for fine-tuning to ensure that the angle is stable, this process is called “shaping”.

19、Drawing

Usually refers to the flat material through the method to get hollow parts of the process is called drawing process, mainly through the convex and concave die to complete.

20、Continuous deep-drawing

Usually refers to a strip of material, through a pair or several molds will be the same location of the material multiple stretching and the formation of a stretching process.

21、Variable deep drawing

Continuous stretching, deep drawing are thinning stretching series, refers to stretching the wall thickness of the parts will be less than the thickness of the material itself.

22、Drawing extension

The principle is similar to convex package, are convex material. However, the drawing is usually referred to automotive parts, which belong to the more complex forming series, and its drawing structure is relatively complex.

23、Engineering die

A set of dies in which only one stamping process can be completed in one set of dies.

24、Compound die

A set of dies in which two or more different stamping processes can be completed in one stamping process.

25、Progressive die

A general term for a die that feeds two or more processes sequentially by means of a belt, and feeds them in sequence to achieve a qualified product in the end.
